It depends on where the wall is and it's purpose. Many interior walls in homes contain only 2 x 4 wood framing. Some will have insulation for warmth and soundproofing reasons. If it's a 'separation wall' in an apartment building it will likely be a 2 x 6 frame with fire -rated insulation. Many walls in modern buildings have metal framing instead of wood .
