When we look up from the earth, we are looking into the atmosphere. The atmosphere appears blue because its gases scatter solar radiation in the longest parts of the visible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum.

Satellites are above the atmosphere, so when they look out they see the black vacuum of space (there is nothing in space, and black is the absence of color). When they look down at the earth, they "see" through the atmosphere to the earth's surface, or to the clouds that are visible above it (if these are sensors that are detecting visible radiation). They cannot observe solar radiation being scattered. Interestingly, the sun appears white from the satellite's point of view. This is because the sun emits radiation at all visible wavelengths, and white is the combination of all colors. The sun appears yellow from the surface because again, the radiation gets scattered in the atmosphere.
