You can move the latch back to the open position by nudging it. This may still prevent it from locking on the component piece when you attempt to close the door, so you will need to take it to a mechanic.
Ignition switch! Try turning the key to "on" position without starting vehicle. Leave key on for about 10 seconds. Try this twice. I had a 1997 Chevy blazer that was getting no gas or spark. Drove me crazy for three months. pulled fuel pump ,(was working fine). Truck would turn over ,but would not start. It ended up being the ignition switch. My key & tumbler was ok, but the switch in there wasn't. Cost for ignition switch is about 130.00.

My understanding is the transmission housing is weak on some of the Chevy trans and will crack allowing excessive clearances internally. I test drove a blazer with a similar problem. Under light load it was ok, but put any stress on the drivetrain and it would pop and grind with no acceleration. My tech said it would require at the very least a rebuild with a possible case replacement.
The rivalry between Ford and Chevy came into being in 1911, when Chevrolet started production. Each company has tried to out build and out sell the other ever since.

This may or may not work to reengauge your 4WD.This process works when your vehicle is stuck in 4WD I have never tried to reengauge a 4WD vehicle but it is worth the try. Good luck
