It's simple. All you have to do open up iTunes then go to your app menu then look to the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, and there should be a link that says "Check for updates." Click that and your computer will load for a few seconds and a pop-up page will well, Pop Up! From there it will tell you if all apps are up-to-date or if some updates are available. If there are some available: it will ask if you want to see the available updates; and of course: you'll want to say yes. After that it will show you a page with the update-able apps and on the bottom-left there is an "update all" link. Click that and it will ask for your password if you haven't already entered it and your done. Just so you know that it is working, go to the "Downloads" bar on the side and you will see the updates downloading.

I had this problem too. I had iTunes installed already, but when I tried to sync my iPhone, nothing came up on my iPhone screen. I quit iTunes, and unplugged my iPhone, then plugged it back in and opened iTunes again.
