Over the past 12+ years I have designed and built 3 HBOC's with the 4th in construction. My HBOC's differ from others, in that I use interior controls. I don't vent expired gases, and I breathe 100% oxygen through a 2nd stage Scuba, with the mouthpiece removed and a silicon CPR mask put in its place. I now have 668 hours of HBOT. I'm 78 and in superb health. The first HBOC was designed for a possibility of two persons, but in 12 years only one person at a time has used it. It is a horizontal cylinder 7' long and 36" in diameter. The window door is 18 1/4" square and fits into an angles iron from. One goes in feet first and secures the door with two copper dogs. The second HBOC is an upright cylinder 3 1/2 feet in diamter about 5 1/2 feet high, with seating for two inside. The door is 48" x 20". I built it for my wife, but she never used it. All of my HBOC's are reasonable to build and cheap to use. The third HBOC was built for 12 persons; 8 inside and an exterior antechamber for 4 It is presently in Esparza, Costa Rica under the care of a doctor trianed in HBO medicine. The fourth is for 6 persons; and is under construction in Cartago, Costa Rica, my place of residence. My e-mail is jkerb@racsa.co.cr feel free to contact me. John W. Erb, P.E. Why did Michael Jackson use a hyperbaric chamber?

He didn't, in 1986 a photograph surfaced of Michael sleeping in a hyperbaric chamber, the tabloids theorised that in order to live to be 150 years old he slept in it each night. Will a hyperbaric chamber help multiple sclerosis?

A hyperbaric chamber is a small vessel which can be used as a diving chamber, or can be used on land to increase air pressure. It can be used to medically treat divers who were surfaced too quickly by re-pressurizing them to force the nitrogen in their blood to return to solution. Following this, they are decompressed slowly, which keeps the nitrogen in the blood in solution. Hyperbaric chambers can also be used in a medical technique known as Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). This therapy has been shown to positively affect cerebral palsey, athough the mechanism is still as of yet undetermined. Some early experiments with Multiple Sclerosis patients showed that HBOT may help improve bowel and bladder control. However, a review by the Cochrane Collaboration discovered, after ten trials and 21 analyses, that there was "no consistent evidence to confirm a beneficial effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy for the treatment of multiple sclerosis and [they] do not believe routine use is justified"
