Can you take vicodin and beta blockers together?

Yes. You will be fine. Your only side effects will be increased drowsiness. Basically, Vicodin slows your body down and so does the Lopressor(metoprolol), so you might "feel it" more. If you have a home monitor, keep an eye on your blood pressure to make sure it doesn't go down *too* much.

You can take these drugs together. There is a moderate druginteraction between the metoprolol and the lidocaine.

Metoprolol is a beta-blocker.

Some beta-blockers may increase lidocaine levels and risk of toxicity. The proposed mechanism is enzyme inhibition and/or decreased cardiac output and hepatic blood flow resulting in decreased hepatic metabolism of lidocaine. In addition beta-blockers and lidocaine may also have additive negative inotropic effects on the heart. Data have been conflicting and variable.

While taking these 2 drugs together, I would watch the following below:

Patients receiving concurrent therapy should be monitored for drowsiness, mental status changes, bradycardia, and hypotension. Lidocaine levels should be obtained when clinically necessary. If toxicity is suspected, the lidocaine infusion should be decreased, as possible.

Vicoden has Tylenol in it. Make sure Propranolol doesn't have Tylenol in it too, or you could OD on Tylenol!
