yes you can put a metal fitting on a plastic pipe but it is not highly recommended but if you must use it make sure that you wrap both fittings with Teflon tape in the opposite direction of the threads and be sure not to tighten to to tight this will cause the plastic to bust i hope this has helped

Galvanised pipe to copper pipe fitting?

You will want to put a length of copper into the fitting and solder it before you put it on the galvanised so that you don't cook out the pipe dope. >>they also could have soldiered on a flange on copper and thread on galvanized pipe.would have been another choice

Do you use PVC pipe cement when connecting a PVC pipe to a galvanized metal pipe?

No, do not use glue. Use teflon tape or pipe dope on the threads. You should also make sure you always put the male PVC thread into the female metal thread. If you do it the other way you will tend to split the PVC fitting when you tighten the threads.

In an older house if you have the metal pipe for the toilet without a flange in the basement can you split the pipe and add the flange to use it for a sink drain too?

Install a ty fitting on the stack in the basement then run it to the sink. Put it low enough to account for a fall in the pipe, to allow proper drainage. Be sure to install a waste and vent pipe to code for both fixtures.

Do you need to dig up a yard hydrant that cracked and is leaking or can you unscrew it from the water pipe and replace it?

Chances are if you put a Pipe Wrench on the Pipe and turn it, you will damage the fitting that the Pipe screws into below ground. You should dig it up and use two Pipe Wrenches.

How can I fix a cracked copper pipe?

If it is leaking at a fitting, it is either a bad flare or it isn't tight enough. Gas or flare fittings should be put together dry, Do no use pipe dope because this can cause a leak between the mating surfaces. If it is in the line itself, either replace the line or cut it, flare the ends and put a fitting in.
