Why do different perspectives exist
I believe and am hoping the Red Naval grows OK in Zone 9. Also certain lemon tress and Satsuma tangerine is said to grow in Zone 9. I have the same problem and am experimenting and planting with crossed fingers :-).

Successful fruit planting is influenced greatly by the site selected and the zone of your area. In the southeast US, you may want to explore apricot, peach or nut trees. Also citrus tress if you are zone 9 or higher.
Ought to work. Ginkgo's are zone 5 trees. I've seen them in northern Indiana; Tampa shouldn't be a problem. See the USDA's site for tree hardiness. I see them in Kissimmee(zone 9)
