Yes, but heres the thing. Most common transmission of oral herpes (cold sore) is skin the skin contact. through kissing and such. Oral Herpes can be transmitted through items such as cups, utensils, straws, and of course cigarettes. But the virus s very fragile and dies pretty quick in the air. I dont know an exact number but id guess 5 mins max. The virus can only survive at body temperature (98.6) so when it hits room temperature it cant survive very long or it mutates and becomes no longer contagious, also the cold sore is the area that is most contagious, so if the person has a cold sore on the corner of their lip, and they only smoke with the other side of their lip, then the chances of transmission is extremely low. SOOO if you do share a cigarette with someone (which you should, better safe than sorry). make sure the cig doesnt touch the sore, keep it in the air for a while for the virus to die, or maybe even put a flame near it for a 30 seconds the heat will kill it, hopefully this helps . ∙ 10y agoYes!!!! Even if the person isn't having any symptoms, it is possible to catch that horrible virus. If they have a active cold sore and you share a cigarette, you will get it for sure. It can't be cured and is highly embarrassing. Definitely a cute girl deterrent! So do not pick up and smoke cigarettes you find on the ground whatever you do.
Theoretically yes, but it's very unlikely if they're not showing symptoms. It's exactly the same risk as kissing the person - best to avoid it if they have a cold sore, but if they don't you're highly unlikely to catch herpes from them.
No, you would not get herpes by smoking after a person who has HSV-2.
Possibly, if the person you're sharing with has an active cold sore. Or chicken pox. (But probably not if they have shingles, since that's generally localised away from the mouth area).

However, it can be transmitted if you are passing "smokes" around and one of the smokers has an active virus in, on or around the mouth or hand.

∙ 14y agoIt's extremely unlikely. AIDS or HIV is transmitted through bodily fluids (saliva, blood, semen, etc). If a person infected with the HIV virus took a drag on a cig, and then passed it to you, it's theoretically POSSIBLE for the infection to be passed on to you but very unlikely. Cigarettes are bad for you but they're not known as disease transmission vehicles.

No, that is unlikely. Smoking contributes to cancer, but it does not generally affect sexually-transmitted diseases. An STD is passed from one person to another through sexual contact, whether through intercourse or through oral sex. Of course, if you have a contagious disease and share your cigarette, the person you share it with might catch whatever you have, but generally, STDs are transmitted through exchanging bodily fluids during sexual contact, not through smoking cigarettes.
The term STD means Sexually Transmitted Diseases means that its primary means of transmission is through sex -- or in other words it is difficult to get them by any means other than sex. However there are plenty of other diseases that you could get from sharing a cigarette. It is just that they don't have the sexual association. Don't under-estimates the ability of infections to infect.
