Yes. Trigeminal nerve involvement can include lesions in the mouth and eye. Eye lesions can cause serious problems if not treated with emergency medical care. Mouth lesions while bothersome and sore can be relieved with medicated mouth washes.

I can't answer from a medical standpoint, but my mom and I have always had "shingles". It used to occur around my lips and mouth, but for the past few years of my life I have it (or a variation of it?) occur in my nose.

So I'm assuming it is possible.

No. In fact, the only thing that you can get shingles from is your own body. The herpes zoster virus which causes shingles is actually the same virus that causes chickenpox. After a person recovers from chickenpox, the virus DNA will remain dormant in your nervous system. Decades later, for reasons not entirely understood, this virus can become active again and cause shingles.

However, even though you can't catch shingles from shingles, you can catch chickenpox from shingles. If someone who doesn't have immunity to chickenpox comes in contact with a person with shingles, there is a good chance that they will catch the virus, and it will develop into chickenpox.

Can you get shingles shot after getting cortisone shot?

Shingles are caused by the chicken pox virus. If you had chicken pox as a child, you have the potential to have shingles later in life. The virus stays latent deep in nervous system tissue and then activates and produces the pain and skin eruptions known as shingles. We are not sure what causes the virus to go active again after decades but there is likely some initiating trigger. The flu shot would not cause shingles, however, each individual's response to drugs and medications can be different. Ask your doctor if, in your case, the immune response to the flu shot could have caused your outbreak of shingles. It is doubtful, but potentially not impossible. If that were the initiating event, it would not be that you "caught" shingles from the vaccine, it would be that the immune response to the vaccine might have triggered the chicken pox virus to reactivate and create shingles.
