With psoriasis of the scalp, there may be some intolerable burning, itching, and irritation of the scalp if the hair were to be colored. The best way to go would be to get either foiled low lights or highlights as this will keep the color off the scalp.

What is Seborrheic dermatitis?

Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes redness, itching, and flaking, typically on areas of the body with a high concentration of oil glands. These areas commonly include the scalp, face (especially around the eyebrows, nose, and ears), and upper chest. It is believed to result from a combination of genetic, environmental, and immune system factors. While the exact cause is not fully understood, factors such as yeast overgrowth (specifically Malassezia), hormonal changes, stress, and certain medical conditions can contribute to its development. Seborrheic dermatitis can range from mild to severe and may flare up periodically. Those who want to learn more about dermatology and different concepts of dermatology, can opt for an online course – Dermatology MD by Dr Rashmi Sarkar and Dr S. Sacchidanand on DigiNevre. The faculty of this course is superb and provides the best knowledge through video lectures and notes. The course also consists of self-assessment questions, spotters (clinical presentation/histopathological images in the form of flashcards), interactive drug formulary, benchmark trials, and much more, and that too at a very affordable price. All these things make this course the best, and the first choice of students.

How is seborrheic dermatitis diagnosed?

Seborrheic dermatitis is typically diagnosed through a combination of medical history, physical examination, and sometimes additional tests if necessary. Healthcare providers, often dermatologists, will inquire about the patient's symptoms, including the location, duration, and severity of any redness, itching, or flaking. They may also ask about factors that worsen or improve symptoms, such as stress or skincare products used. During the physical examination, providers will inspect affected areas of the skin, focusing on common sites like the scalp, face, and upper chest, where seborrheic dermatitis manifests. They may observe characteristic signs such as redness, scaling, and flaking. Additional tests, such as skin biopsy or fungal culture, may be conducted if needed to confirm the diagnosis or rule out other conditions with similar symptoms. These are the diagnosis for Seborrheic Dermatitis. Also, If anyone is looking for any source or online course to learn in this, I would personally refer all the students to opt for the online course - Dermatology MD by Dr Rashmi Sarkar | Dr S. Sacchidanand on DigiNevre. It includes well-illustrated video lectures, printed notes, benchmark trials, and self-assessment questions. Apart from that, the indulgent teaching style of the faculty is not only interesting but also makes complexities apprehensible for the learners. This course is extremely beneficial for enhancing the understanding and gaining conceptual clarity of dermatological concepts.
