yes
Look under the front of the vehicle. If you see a differential it is 4wd, if not it is 2wd.
There is a cable for the front differential. One end goes to the front differential, one end goes to a vacuum actuator under the battery. That is what most commonly is wrong with those vehicles.
The GMC Jimmy is rear wheel drive. The only time the front wheels pulled is if it was a 4x4.
Most Jimmies use a vacuum ball to engage the front diff in 4 wheel drive. It will be located in the engine compartment mounted to one of your fender wells (changes from year to year). Make sure that the vacuum line from the ball to the diff is in good shape and is not leaking.

No. It is standard rear-wheel drive truck until the 4WD mode is engaged.
The best place to find the diagram for the rear differential on a 2000 GMC Jimmy is at the dealer. The dealer carries diagrams and manuals for all the the repair work.

on most 83s the front axle is locked by vacume. There is a vacume canister on the right hand fender well under the hood check the vacume hoses to the transfer case
The best place to find an exploded view is at your local dealer. They should be able to print you a copy. The front diff should be the same on all models including your diamond addition.
It's probably a problem with the differential. In 4wd you're putting pressure on the gears that isn't there in 2wd.
I have a 2000 Jimmy and just had to have new ball joints put in yesterday for the same problem and then had an alignment done on it today.
