Yes you can. Last I checked, your license allows you to travel as far south as Ensenada. Further south and you'll need a visa as well.
You'll definitely want to check with the US Department of State and the Mexican Consulate though, if you're going farther south than the border towns, as there are a few traveller's advisories in effect for Mexico, and this may change quickly.
