With today's Computer Monitors, that's very unlikely to work without a lot of supporting electronics. One of the main reasons is that computer monitors don't usually use standard scan rates. Unless you can find an old composite monitor, like a Commodore 1705 which has a composite video input, and providing the DVD player also has a composite video output, your chances are very slim.

DVD players do not generally have outputs that are compatible with computers. You would need a video capture card installed, which would then be awkward to view it correctly.

A better way would be to change your opical drive, to one that accepts DVDs and then play the DVD directly on the computer.

Yes, but not without purchasing some expensive equipment to convert the signal. It would be cheaper to buy a new TV. Much cheaper.
