No. The only thing you might be able to collect is 'Disability Insurance'. Unemployment Insurance comes into play only when a person has been laid off from active employment - people are not laid off for medical illnesses.

NO! States require you to 'telephohe' in every week with answers to basic questions about your availability and ability to work. If you were sick, in the hospital, out of the state or country, etc., etc. and you answer truthfully as you should, then you cannot collect unemployment.

Because each state has its own requirements relating to definition, length, etc. you have to contact your own state unemployment office for clarification.

Unless the sickness was employment connected, unfortunately no. You have to have the proper work history to qualify.

That would be Workman's Compensation. You must be off work long enough, and you must apply for it.

Can a credit card company attach your bank account when the only income in the account comes from unemployment checks?

I suspect it depends on the rate of income, and unemployment benefits in many states don't amount to a rate that the civil court would consider above the threshold to award a garnishment of that income (most likely the income will be garnished at the source organization, not a financial vehicle, unless a substantial stream of cash from no documentable source is recorded). Of course there may be poignant variation of garnishment procedure in the state where you originated the income (unemployment benefits in this case).

Can I claim my children as dependents on my tax return if my income was from unemployment benefits?

Unemployment income does not effect your dependents and your ability to claim them on your return. As long as you meet the other requirement to claim your children then you can certainly claim them.

You had 2 jobs and one fired you can you collect unemployment if you keep your other job?

No. You still have a source of income from the 2nd job. The purpose of UI is to provide a pittance income while you not working and seeking employment. Since you are still working, you are not eligible for UI.

What tax form do you use if you had unemployment benefits in 2008?

Unemployment benefits are reported to you on Form 1099-G (Certain Government Payments). If you had unemployment benefits, you can file any of the 1040 series. Form 1040EZ is Income Tax Return for Single and Joint Filers with No Dependents. It's the easiest form. If you're single or married filing jointly with no dependents and your only source of income was unemployment, then you should file Form 1040EZ. Depending on the complexity of your situation, you may need to file either Form 1040A or Form 1040. For 2008 unemployment benefits, you enter the full amount from line 1 (unemployment compensation) onto line 3 of 1040EZ or line 13 of 1040A or line 19 of 1040. For 2009 returns, report the amount in box 1 of 1099-G that is in excess of $2,400. In other words, $2,400 of your unemployment benefits are excluded from your income, and therefore from tax, for 2009.

Can you collect unemployment in Texas if you get fired?

You are usually eligible to receive unemployment benefits even if you were fired so long as you were not fired for "gross misconduct," the definition of which is determined by the state unemployment agency and seems, in Texas, to include "work-related misconduct, neglect, or mismanagement" according to a Texas Unemployment website (see "Related Links"). You have nothing to lose by filing for unemployment benefits and should do so right away. Include all pertinent information so the unemployment agency has as much information as possible. They will contact your previous employer and will allow you to dispute anything your employer says, but make sure you are being honest and have documented the situation well.

Can you get unemployment in New Jersey if not working but have a source of other income?

Yes, you can receive unemployment when you have other income. Social Security does not count, but 401K disbursement, pension paid on a monthly basis, or any other income may reduce the amount of unemployment you get by the amount of income you receive. Be sure to report income, as heavy penalties may apply if you don't. Check with the Unemployment Office to find out what qualifies. The Related Link below gives more details.

Understanding Your Taxable Social Security Benefits?

These days, there are many elderly people who depend on social security as a main source of income. For some people, social security benefits are their only form of income. If this is your case, then you will not be required to pay taxes on your social security benefits. Social security benefits that are the only source of income for an individual do not need to be taxed. However, if your modified adjusted gross income exceeds the limit set forth by the IRS, then your social security benefits will be taxed. For a single person, the income amount is set at $25,000.

Can collection agency freeze checking account if you have survivor's benefits?

If a person receives a settlement from auto accident will it affect unemployment?

It depends on your state's criteria regarding income while receiving compensation. While some allow it because it's not a source from the worker's previous employment income, most states still require you to report ALL income, regardless the source. If it does affect it, it usually offsets unemployment only in the week(s) received.

How much will taxes be for your unemployment of 11000?

Unemployment Benefits are subject to federal taxation, as well as state taxation (depending on the state in which you live). Certain states exempt unemployment benefits from taxation, and there are states with no state taxation, regardless of the income source. The amount you will pay in taxes on $11,000.00 is dependent on factors such as your tax filing status, how many exemptions you claim on your taxes, and whether you will be filing the standard deduction or itemizing deductions. It would be impossible to determine how much your taxes would be on unemployment of $11,000.00 without knowing the state where you received the unemployment benefits, and other filing questions that will affect the amount of taxes you will have to pay. If this was all the income you received for the year, regardless of your filing status or state, you should only have to pay a minimum amount. However, if you found work and the $11,000 is only a small percentage of what you received for the year (adding in your employment income) the amount you pay may be much more. I suggest you contact a tax consultant.
