You can do whatever you have the money, time, patience and knowledge to do. I wouldn't however take the time to mess with a stock engine from that year, which most were a 4.9 and crap with only about 140 hps stock. I'd personally do what I'm doing with my 81, putting a new ls vette motor in it.
