Usually the validity for instruments like Cheque the validity is only 6 months from the date of issue. So assuming the cheque was issue on Dec 1st 2008 you can use it till May 31st 2009. Beyond that date if you deposit the cheque, the cheque issuing bank/person is not liable to pay the money.
