It is true Sunday is a day when you can do or have what you gave up for Lent.

Roman Catholic AnswerI'm not sure what you are asking when you ask if it is a "free" day, but Sundays are all feasts, one never fasts or abstains on a feast day, so if you are giving something up, then yes, you would be free of that obligation on any feast day. The Annunciation and St. Joseph's Day both usually fall in Lent and are both Solemnities, so if they fall on a Friday, that day would also not be a fast or abstinence day.

Yes. lent is the forty days before Easter Day (sarting on Ash Wednesday) not counting Sundays. Most Christians though still regard the Sundays as 'part' of Lent, althoughif you are fasting, or giving up something, Sundays don't actually count.

No, Sundays are not included in the Lenten season. This is because Sunday is always considered a celebration of the Resurrection of Christ and are not included in the Lenten penance and fasting.

The fourth Sunday in Lent is called "Laetare Sunday". On this Sunday in Lent priests may wear Rose-colored vestments for the liturgy. The purpose of the Sunday is to encourage the Faithful who have come through four weeks of Lent in fastings and prayers. Laetare Sunday therefore is a festive interlude amid the highly penitential season of Lent.

How do you do a progressive fast for Lent?

This is a fast our church recommends: Ash Wednesday - Abstain from beef and veal for remainder of Lent Sunday, March 17 - Abstain from pork for remainder of Lent Sunday, March 24 - Abstain from poultry for remainder of Lent Sunday, March 31 - Abstain from fish seafood for remainder of Lent Sunday, April 7 - Abstain from eggs for remainder of Lent Sunday, April 14 - Abstain from dairy for remainder of Lent Holy Thursday, Good Friday & Saturday - bread and water only This is pretty intense...I did it last year as I was going thru RCIA. Listen to your body..don't put yourself in an unhealthy situation. If you need to break the fast, break it. It comes down to intention... They recommend consulting your doctor before trying. Good luck if you try it! I'll be there with you!!
