Yes. your taste buds CAN fall of your tongue. If you burnt your tongue or if you ate too much salty foods. But it will grow back. So don't worry if it ever happens to you.....

The average person has about 10,000 taste buds and they're replaced every 2 weeks or so. But as a person ages, some of those taste cells don't get replaced. An older person may only have 5,000 working taste buds. That's why certain foods may taste stronger to you than they do to adults. Smoking also can reduce the number of taste buds a person has.

How do you heal a infected taste bud on the tongue?

those little round bud things aren't really your taste buds..your taste buds are actually underneath and they are too small for the naked eye to see. yes.. Are taste buds more sensitive to different flavors on different parts of the tongue?

Supposedly, there are different types of taste buds on different areas of the tongue. It is hard to actually prove this, since your saliva spreads the taste all over. Some scientists feel that this is not true anyway, but you can experiment. Get four samples of tastes - sweet, bitter, salt, and sour (make sure they are fairly wet samples because you will be drying your tongue off!). Stick out your tongue and dry it off with a paper towel. Then touch a drop of each taste to different spots on your tongue. The traditional spots are: * Bitter - back of the tongue * Sweet - front of tongue * Sour - one spot on each side of the tongue toward the front * Salt - one spot on each side of the tongue toward the back

Do taste buds wear out?

In a sense. The average life of a taste bud is about 10 days but those are replaced by new ones constantly. Strangely enough, the higher your altitude the less sensitive your taste buds. Also, as you age your taste buds become less sensitive requiring more seasoning.

Do you lose your taste buds after 80 years old?

Your sense of taste is connected to your ability to smell. If your nasal passages are blocked, lets say because of a cold or the flu, your ability to taste will be impaired. Smokers regularly report that their sense of taste is diminished, probably as a result of continual tobacco use. There is no definitive data suggesting that we lose our sense of taste as we age.

Which part of the human tongue recongnises bitter taste?

Without the capacity to taste things that were bitter or foul-tasting, we would not be able to detect poisons or off food along with things which we are not supposed to consume. However, there are a significant percentage of the human population who cannot taste bitter any more, due to a distinct lack of random poisonous things being consumed and selecting out those without bitter taste buds in recent evolutionary history.

Biting off a taste bud?

It would be difficult to bite off a taste bud. If you are reffering to the bumps on your tongue those are called papillae. These are not the taste buds, however, some of them are associated with taste buds. The papillae are surrounded by a moat and on the wall of the papillae in the moat are the taste buds. So you would have to cut a papillae somewhat deep in order to have taken the taste bud with it. Assuming the taste bud left with the papillae it should regenerate, eventually. As mentioned only some papillae have taste buds. In humans only the circumvallate papillae, fungiform papillae, and foliate papillae have taste buds on their walls. drazx is the original author of this answer

How do you turn off your taste buds?

You will need to talk to a plastic surgeon. I'm sure it will be expensive but totally doable depending on the ethics of the surgeon. The easiest way would probably be for them to tortch your tongue to burn them off. But There's no true way to get rid of your taste buds because they are like lil organisms on your tongue but you can burn them off but it will only last but so long. they will eventually grow back

White furry tongue after eating sweet things?

Bacteria builds up after awhile, which results in the "fur" on your tongue. Also, shortly after eating sweet things, your tongue might burn because the acid in the candy/sweet thing is making your taste buds swell and sting. This usually only happens with sour candy, and the "furry tongue" can easily be reversed by scraping the "fur" off.
