The ELG in an oval indicates it was made in Belgium (Liege) prior to 1893 (unless there is a crown over the oval, then it was made sometime later), and approved for black powder ammunition.
The "S" is just the product code to identify the "Sweet Sixteen" Model
The letter A after the number 530 has no significant meaning at all.It was just used to help identify this double barrel model shotgun that was made by Stevens.
A red letter Winchester 37 has a red W on the bottom of the receiver. They bring about a 15% premium over standard 37's. Be careful that it is a true 37 and not a 37A.

If this was all the number there was, then the gun was made in 1903 and the barrel says: "Browning Automatic Arms Co." If not, then the serial number has a letter or letter and number above the four digits which will identify it. Check and ask again if this is the case.
