One vertebrae being out of place can throw the entire spine slightly off kilter. I recently went to the chiropractor for lower back, shoulder, and elbow pain, along with a numb hand. A couple of adjustments and I am feeling so much better.

He took X-Rays and showed me where I had things at the top and bottom of my spine out of place. He explained how the nerves do not go just one place and stop. They branch off again and again throughout areas of the body. Nerves all start at the spine. If your sciatica is causing you pain, there is a good chance you have other things going on as well. With a good chiropractor and a couple of X-Rays, you will most likely be able to tell exactly what is going on and be able to get it addressed.

Hi, I read the reply above and wanted to put in my two cents worth so here it goes.
I want people to be sure that they go to a chiropractor who is thorough. I myself went to one many yrs ago and almost ended up paralyzed. This chiropractor did adjustments on me when the problem was a herniated disc. He should have done an exam and xrays but didn't. I was young ans only wanted the pain to improve.
My word of warning is be sure to go to a chiropractor who is very thorough, if not you too may end up like me in a life full of surgeries and pain. Thankfully I have found the best chiropractor I have ever seen, he is fantastic. He has never adjusted me, he uses an activator on my back. I have actually had some days without pain which is amazing. I have had three spinal surgeries, been dealing with Back pain for more than thirty years after having had the three failed surgeries which only made things worse. I now live a life full of pain wearing a morphine pump, doing toradol injections when needed and oral hydromorphone for break through pain. I also take 3600 mg of gabepentin along with many more meds. Believe me when I give you warning that surgery is often not the way to go, they would have done yet another back surgery but I told them enough is enough. I leave the office and they go back to their pain free life and never give me a second thought, I go home and suffer.
I hope anyone having problems will seek the appropriate medical advice. Don't always jump at the way the doctors think will be the best because frequently they are not the best. Sometime taking time and doing natural holistic therapies is much better.
Presently I am doing yoga, having a reflexology treatment once a week, I would have it more but my reflexologist tells me I need to allow my body the time to let the treatment work. I also go to the chiropractor once a week and I am starting MOOR mud wraps and scrubs to detox my body. I am weaning back on the morphine, believe me when I say after more than eighteen years on it make it hard to come off of it but I will. I now believe that everything we need to combat and cure our problems is here on the earth in the form of teas, herbs, etc. and I am getting along a lot better using this rather than running to my regular doctor and taking a man made remedy.
I wish you all the best of health and life.
