Assuming you're asking what they are, how they work etc. Nothing is free... When you first buy a mobile - you pay a higher monthly charge to cover the cost of the handset. If you're at the end of your initial contract period, and happy to keep the phone you've already got, you can usually switch to a SIM only deal. This means you carry on with your current provider, but pay less monthly rental. I'm with 3-mobile and had an initial 18-month contract, costing £12.00 a month. At the end of the contract period, I switched to a 12 month SIM only contract, which only costs me £4.00 per month !
