Can any person collect unemployment in Washington state if you are fired?
In most cases, yes you can. You will receive notification once you file for Unemployment. When you file you select fired for attendance, or if that's not there then select fired/disqualified. Once you have filed you will be sent a letter and asked to call a number and claim (although no money will be given at this point). After about 5 weeks you are asked to do a phone interview where your employer, an Unemployment agent, and you will participate. Most cases your employer won't participate but there are some that do. After the interview they will determine if you were fired because of an ongoing medical condition or if you just didn't go to work. If your reason is the latter, you will most likely not receive benefits. If you do have a recurring medical condition, then mention this to the claims interviewer that you talk to and they will ask you to fax this info to them to give "evidence" to your claim. You will receive notification from the Unemployment center after approx 3 business days if you will receive benefits or not. Basically, if you get the unemployment you were penalized 5 weeks without benefits because of the attendance issue.
Is there an unemployment disability benefit?
If you file for unemployment and are not able to work, then you will be ineligible for benefits. However, if you are currently receiving benefits and become disabled, then yes...you would be flagged in their system to continue with benefits. It is a process because once you notify them of your disability, then your benefits will be placed on hold, you will be sent medical documentation for your Doctor to fill out, and return. The unemployment office will only know if you are disabled if you tell them.

There are ways that your new employer may find out about your previous employment and most companies state clearly that any falsification on resumes or applications will result in your immediate termination once discovered. Tread carefully!
Can you collect unemployment in Idaho if you quit to follow your husbands job?
Idaho's unemployment benefits are sad at best. I am not an expert on the subject, but I believe that if you quit a job in the last 16 months for any reason then you are not eligible for unemployment in Idaho. It wouldn't hurt to check with the labor office to make sure though. I once left a job because my paychecks were bouncing. My employer expected me to continue working without pay. Idaho still denied me unemployment compensation for the month it took me to find a new job.

No. Once you start working again (especially for 3 or 4 months), your unemployment stops.

It is very unlikely that an employer will check your references once you have started the job. Anything is possible, but I can't imagine why the employer would do this at that point. If a prospective employer plans on checking references, it will usually be done after you have been interviewed but before you have been offered the job. As soon as someone wants you out (boss or co-worker),k if they have access, they will use it against you.

If you are looking for actual unemployment insurance (in case you're fired or laid off), then your employer is responsible for this. Your employer must pay into the state unemployment fund. If, your employer is a non-profit organization such as a religious school, etc., then the employer would probably not pay into the unemployment fund, so there is no unemployment insurance available for employees of this type of organization. It is also important to mention that, depending on the state, substitute teachers who work only September through June may be eligible for unemployment benefits during the summer. From what I researched, substitute teacher's in California cannot receive unemployment benefits when they have "reasonable assurance" to work the following school year. However in the Los Angeles School District says it different. They have 2 ways of doing it. Their web page says "When you call to start your claim, it is imperative that you tell the EDD representative that you are a 'Year Round' Substitute Teacher." The second solution: Once on the web page, download the substitute handbook. This handbooks says "When you call to start your claim, it is imperative that you tell the EDD representative that as as Substitute Teacher you do not have "reasonable assurance" to return to work, and they should refer to the EDD's procedures for the year 2005-2006, Unemployment Insurance Project Notice (UIPN #05-038). This will clarify your status as a Substitute Teacher who is eligible for unemployment benefits. This will eliminate the need for a follow-up phone interview. If the representative is not familiar with these new EDD procedures and inform you you are scheduled for a phone interview, ask to speak to a supervisor.

You do have certain obligations that must be met in order to get and receive unemployment benefits. If those obligations ie employment tries aren't met they can discontinue your benefits. Best ideal is to call the Oklahoma employment office and explain your situation. The worst that can happen is they echo what I have posted here. You are entitled to resume receiving your benefits once you are able to fulfill the obligations.
