No, chiggers are not insects.
Specifically, chiggers are the larval stage of a family of mites. Mites belong to the arachnid -- not the insect -- class. Like insects, mites have externally-located skeletons. But like Spiders, they sport eight legs.
Chiggers live in wooded areas on the ground. Chiggers especially love pine forests are even a small patch of pines where the soil is very acidic. They love to 'nest' in below the pine needles on the ground.
Antiseptic kills chiggers to prevent from scratching but it does not stop the scratching right away
Well they don't really "eat" anything what they sustain themselves on is blood
they probably can
Chiggers don't seem to be contagious, but if they are, it's hardly contagious at all.
Yes, and they can transfer them to you too....
Chiggers are a type of mite.
Chiggers are tiny 6-legged creatures. They are known to attack people in wooded and/or damp areas. They are most commonly found during summertime when grass and weeds grow the heaviest. Chiggers do not bury themselves into the skin like small ticks do; they bite near the hair follicles and produce red welts which can be very painful and itchy. Chiggers are very small and cannot be seen without a magnifying glass. They usually feed on snakes, birds, and mammals; even humans. Chiggers usually bite humans where clothing fits tightly or in places like waistlines, armpits, and behind the knees. Chiggers are not known to carry disease in the United States. When they bite, the symptoms can continue for about a week. If symptoms are not treated, then they become a secondary infection.

i just did this tonight and i will tell yall later if this work but if you have asthama it will affect it just to let you know
Well of course chiggers die, as every living thing does. On your skin (and don't listen to the others who tell you otherwise) you can put clear nailpolish on your skin, which suffocates them. Or, just put rubbing alcohol on them every so often. It works, OK? I have had plenty of chiggers in my life! And I'm perfectly healthy! This tactic works great, and you won't develop any health concerns. Believe me, I've had hundreds of chiggers.
South Carolina has plenty of chiggers!!! Want some?

It is definitely possible to get bitten by chiggers in Maryland. Chiggers are a type of tiny, red biting bug. By the time a person realizes they have been bitten, the chiggers have usually fallen off. The best way to treat a bite is with calamine lotion.
Chiggers (Trombiculidae) feed upon the skin of animals by attaching themselves to their host .
No chiggers can not spread and neither can the rash. But you can find chiggers in a grassy area. And it comes around the rainy summer time.Off your clothes, yes. Once they are in place on the skin, no.
Might be chiggers.
