Baby rabbits shouldn't eat any fruit at all, including apples.

  • Once they're weaned, baby rabbits should eat a diet of unlimited alfalfa hay and high-quality pellets
  • Fresh leafy greens can be introduced in tiny portions at 12 weeks
  • Fruit and other vegetables (like carrot) can be introduced in tiny portions at 6 months
  • Between 7 and 12 months of age, rabbits should be slowly transitioned to an adult diet

Warning: Always make diet changes gradually with rabbits: even a switch to a healthier diet can make a rabbit very sick if not done properly. New foods should always be introduced one at a time and in small portions; rabbit owners should then observe their rabbit's health before increasing portions or introducing new foods (in particular, watch for signs of gas, mushy stool, and poisoning/Allergies.) Apples are unhealthy for rabbits if the rabbits eat a lot of them. Apples are a good treat food for rabbits. Apple seeds are toxic to rabbits, so always remove them beforehand. So long as the rabbit is healthy and eating a balanced diet, a bite or two of apple every few days shouldn't cause any problems. See the related question below for more info and helpful links about the rabbit diet.

Rabbits can eat apple in any form -- chopped, chunks, sliced; however, they can't eat a whole apple, because the seeds are toxic to them. Rabbits also shouldn't eat very much apple, because it's a treat for them, not a regular part of their diet. A bite or two of apple once or twice a week should be fine so long as your rabbit is healthy and eating a balanced diet. Too many treats can lead to illness in rabbits. No, rabbits don't usually die from eating apple. Apple seeds contain a cyanide compound, which is dangerous and toxic to rabbits, so if a rabbit eats many apple seeds, it will probably fall ill. Also, if rabbits eat too many treats, they will probably fall ill. And, if a sick rabbit isn't brought to the vet, it will probably die. But, if your rabbit is healthy, and eating a balanced diet, and doesn't eat any apple seeds, a bite or two of apple every few days is a perfectly acceptable treat.

Small adult pet rabbits eat the same foods as all adult pet rabbits, just in smaller portion sizes. Apple is okay for rabbits as a treat -- a small bite or two every few days or so should be fine, assuming the rabbit is also healthy and eating a balanced diet. Remove all seeds as apple seeds are toxic to rabbits.

Rabbits younger than 6 months old shouldn't eat any fruit, sugary vegetables (like carrot), or other treats. At 6 months, fruit (like apple) can be introduced in tiny portion sizes.

Any time you introduce a new food to your rabbit, do so one at a time (not in combination with other new foods), and in small portion sizes. Watch your rabbit for signs of ill-health (like gas, mushy stool or diarrhea, pain, allergies).

No, rabbits can't eat an entire apple for many reasons:

  1. Apple seeds are toxic to rabbits.
  2. Apple is a sugary food, and considering how small rabbits are, they're not a small treat, either -- a sudden large sugar spike can upset a rabbit's gut bacteria, leading to pain and GI stasis.
  3. If a rabbit gorges on treats, she won't be inspired to eat as much hay, but for healthy teeth and digestion, rabbits need to eat lots and lots of hay every day -- a reduction in fibre in the diet can lead to cecal dysbiosis and even GI stasis.
  4. A diet high in treats leads over time to obesity, which itself leads to various ailments like sore hocks, skin illnesses (due to poor mobility and ability to groom), Arthritis and other bone illnesses, and organ illnesses.

Yes in small quantities. Bunnies have to get used to eating them first before you give them a lot though
