That depends on a few things.
Answers should not typically be removed from questions.
Answers that are candidate for removal are those that are offensive or inflammatory; does not answer the question; are debates or discussions (should be placed in that question's discussion pages instead); or are so nonsensical that they cannot be salvaged into something that makes sense with the question.
So, basically, yes, answers that are completely irrelevant to the question would generally be removed.
However, that's not to go without saying that it is perfectly fine to expand within the answer relevant topics that may be of interest to the question.
For example: The question asks, "When is the next leap year?" The answer would be "In the year 2012." That answer alone completely answers the question. However, someone may add, "Leap year occurs every four years to make up for the extra 1/4 of a day in which Earth actually completes a revolution around the sun, but is not counted each year on our calendars." This portion of the answer is also great for the question, because it gives the reader a little more information about the question (how often it happens and why), and would be considered relevant. Extraneous information is not a bad thing here, as long as the question is properly addressed and noticeable.
Now, for opinionated questions, such as those commonly found in the Religion categories, answer removal is restricted even more so. It is not okay to remove someone's answer just because you don't agree with it or find it to be wrong according to what you believe in. It is perfectly fine to provide within an answer, two sides (or 3 - a Pro/For, Con/Against, Middle) provided the answers address the question and do not stray into discussion or debates.
Answers are not deleted if it is flagged for spelling / grammar correction. However, answers that are offensive or inflammatory; does not answer the question; are debates or discussions (should be placed in that question's discussion pages instead); or nonsensical are removed. Even if the answer is completely irrelevant to the question, it will be removed.
(I deleted the original answer deleted as it was childishly obscene & irrelevant. Left for someone who can answer the question properly.)
The number of answers changes every minute as answers are deleted and are answered.
If and when someone sees it, the answer will be deleted and the account that posted it will be reviewed for further action.
Yes questions can be taken off WikiAnswers. The only reason they would be taken off Answers is if they were nonsense, did not have enough info to answer, were illegal, or inappropriate. You can always flag a question for review if you believe it should be deleted.
Only Supervisors or Staff can delete questions from WikiAnswers or Answers dot com. Primarily, questions that violate the terms of use or rules of the site are the only ones deleted.
Questions are constantly getting merged, deleted etc. It would be very difficult to determine this. Maybe try to email WikiAnswers @ answers.com and ask them to answer this question.
Yes, but opinion-based questions should be in the format "What are your opinions on xxxx," and no answer to the question should be deleted unless it contradicts the Community Guidelines. Blanking in such answers is a blockable offense.
The reason your answer may be deleted is because another user has deemed it unnecessary to the question, irrelevant to the question, or a nonsense or rude or profane answer. The other reason is that a user has edited the answer to include correct information and merged their answer with yours, and it is possible that your answer wasn't correct or accurate.
Questions about Islam are not deleted on WikiAnswers unless they are deemed inappropriate. If you believe you asked a question that should not of been deleted it is advised you email: goodquestion@wikianswers.com to appeal the deletion.
Judging by the way you phrased this question - it's obvious ! ANYONE can edit answers on here. If your answers are getting deleted - it's probably because they are sub-standard, offensive, insulting or gibberish. WikiAnswers has a set of guidelines which EVERYONE who contributes is expected to follow.
Questions that are asked never get deleted, unless it is against the rules of WikiAnswers. The question is permanently logged into the WikiAnswers databased, and never goes away.
