Can a woman who has been mentally emotionally psychologically abused suffer from battered womens syndrome?

- A victim (woman/man) who has been a victim of psychological abuse by their partner suffers as many wounds as a person who has been physically abused; you just can't readily see the scars from that psychological abuse. If someone is told enough for a long period of time that they are useless; not worth being alive; a poor wife or mother, etc., this is ingrained into the brain and eventually the victim will believe that is just what they are. It causes the victim to feel detached from family, friends and society as a whole; sometimes high strung and very nervous and causes them to have low self esteem. It will take several years by a psychologist to unwind the tangled web the verbal abuser has caused the victim (and they are a victim.)
