Yes. A pinched nerve in the thoracic spine, called a thoracic radiculopathy, can have pain localized in the upper back or mid back that wraps around to the front following the path of one or more of the ribs. Often the pain is described as a burning pain, shooting pain, or a prickling "pins & needles" type of pain. The pain may be provoked by certain movements of the trunk. Other causes of rib pain to consider include injury to the rib itself, infection or tumor of the rib itself, inflammation of the point where the rib meets the sternum (chostrochondritis), referred pain from an organ, sprain of a muscle attached to a rib, or dysfunction of the joint where the rib meets the spine.
Numbness on the left side of the chest that travels to the thigh can be caused by a pinched spinal nerve. If the numbness continues consult your physician.
Yes, you can actually get a trapped nerve in the chest. I have had this horriable pain for about 5 years after falling down a cliff at a young age. I have have complained to my doctors numerous times that i am in terriable pain with it because the trapped nerve is right next to my heart and you can have problems breating IN when the pain strikes, apparently there is no cure or operation that can cure this.
Any disorder with the ribs can certainly cause lumbar pain. Perhaps the body is favoring the ribs and carrying itself in a way that causes lumbar strain.
