Mothers can complain about anything to anyone, but to have standing in court the son probably would have to be seen as incompetent in some way and the complaint would have to be that the daughter-in-law is abusing him or his finances in some way.

If your ex-boyfriend's mother called you to touch base did she call on his behalf?

She probably called on his behalf - unless the two of you (his mother and you) had a somewhat close relationship OR unless she needs something or is calling for a very particular reason. If this isn't the case - chances are she is trying to get a feel for your life/situation for her son as he may be interested in you again.
