No. Light bulb filaments become extremely hot when in use, and oxygen, which is highly reactive, would cause the filament to burn away in a matter of seconds.

Argon is used because it is inert, and thus will not react with the filament.

Why are light bulbs filled with argon and not air?

If you use air instead of argon to fill a light bulb, the air will burn the light bulb.

Why is argon used instead on air in the light bulb?

The filament in the light bulb is heated to a very high temperature. At such a temperature oxygen from the air would oxidise the metal(s) in the filament and thereby destroy the bulb. Using an inert gas such as argon in the bulb prevents such oxidation.

In a bulb noble gas argon is used . why is argon is used instead of air in the light bulb?

It won't burn the filament.

Is argon used in a light bulb?

yes argon is used for light bulb and it is not reactive

Why do you use Argon in a light bulb instead of oxygen?

The current flowing through the filament causes it to heat to a very high temperature - so high that is becomes incandescent (glows) and gives light. If the bulb was filled with oxygen then, at those high temperatures, the filament would oxidise - burn out - and the bulb would be "blown".

Which gas used in light bulb?

The gas in a light bulb is Argon

What air is in a light bulb?

the basically unreactive gas argon (element) is in a light bulb to prevent the tungsten (element) filament from coming into contact with oxygen (element) and getting oxygenated.

Why do they use argon gas in a light bulb?

It is used to replace oxygen so that the hot filament does not get oxidised or burn.

Why was argon gas chosen for a light bulb?

Argon is often used when an inert atmosphere is needed. It is used in this way in incandescent light bulbs to stop oxygen from corroding the filament. Argon is used in fluorescent tubes and low-energy light bulbs. A low-energy light bulb often contains argon gas and mercury. When it is switched on an electric discharge passes through the gas, generating UV light. The coating on the inside surface of the bulb is activated by the UV light and it glows brightly.

What is the purpose of argon inside the bulb?

The pourpose of argon is to keep materials from reacting with oxygen

What elements light up a light bulb?

argon is an element that make up a light bulb

What gas is inside a light bulb?

The kind of gas that is in a light bulb is called Argon.
