Homosexuality is generally considered to be forbidden in the mainstreams of both Christianity and Islam so such a contract is unlikely to be religiously accepted. However from a secular or civil viewpoint, if the two men (one who happens to be a Christian and the other a Muslim) live in a country where same sex marriage is legal then they have only to go through the appropriate channels available to get married. For example, a civil partnership in the UK. If they live where it's illegal then the only option would be to move somewhere where it's legal, failing that you would have to accept that you won't get married.

AnswerIf a man is living the life of a homosexual and is not repenting for it and (by the look of the question) has no intention of repenting but continues that life, it is not likely that the man is a Muslim. So the question is really flawed since it would not be a 'Muslim' man(as defined by what a Muslim is in the Qur'an which all Muslims are to follow if they profess to be Muslim) involved in that hypothetical scenario. AnswerAlso, be very, very careful about claiming to know what defines a "Muslim" or a "Christian", in terms of doctrine. There are a significant number of Christian sects (Lutherans, Episcopalians, etc. ) which are fully supportive of homosexuals (that is, they see no problem with being homosexual or heterosexual person of the faith), and as Muslims don't have any central authority which defines doctrine for Islam, there is no "official" definition of what is permissible to a "Muslim". Be extremely careful making general statements about huge religion's beliefs, as you almost certainly are going to be wrong for a significant proportion of those believers.

In most Western countries, religious affiliation is immaterial to civil marriage, so if the country permitted civil marriage between two same-sex people, then a Christian man would have no more problem marrying a Muslim man than he would a Christian woman. In terms of religions, it once again depends on the specific church in question - many churches allow religious marriages of same-sex people (even if the state does not), and many allow inter-faith marriages.

Conceptually and realistically, there's no barrier to this happening other than the particular beliefs of the individuals and the legal status of same-sex marriage in a country.

A Muslim man can marry Christain women but, Muslim women cannot marry Christian man.

The Bible forbids any Christian from marrying anyone who is not a Christian, in such verses as:

2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

The Bible also notes (truthfully) you will have much trouble in your marriage, especially if a Christian woman marries a Muslim man.
Yes, but if the Muslim is male and the Christian is female, then the Christian has to become a Muslim in order to marry them.

I'm not sure what happens if it's the other way around. But most times if the Muslim is a female, her father doesn't let her marry outside of her religion...

It all depends on the people anyhow.

Under law, a Muslim of any gender can marry a Christian of the opposite in any Western country or in India, but not in Muslim-majority countries. However, both parties should consider the feelings of their family and close friends before making this decision.

According to the Islamic faith, a Muslim man can marry a Christian woman, but a Muslim woman can not marry a Christian man. Muslims hold that Islam "passes" to the child from the father, so for a Muslim woman to marry a Christian man would result in Christian children, which is unacceptable. Conversely in Christianity both interfaith marriages are permitted, although not necessarily encouraged. These issues mean that in addition to the legal position, the couple must take into account their religious beliefs and the strength of their religious ties. Their options are to ignore the religious rules, or for one of the parties to convert to the other's religion.

* Yes. It takes a tolerant attitude on both parts to get along. Christians and Muslims marry all the time. Interfaith marriages could have problems if one is intolerant. If you couldn't marry, God would prevent it. Different believers have different beliefs.

* Some Muslims would not allow this, so it depends on what area of the world you are in and the family concerned.

* Also, if the Christian man is following the Bible he couldn't marry the Muslim lady either. * No he should not marry a Muslim woman, or any other woman who is not a Christian. The scriptures teach not to be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. Some may say this scripture does not mean marriage but perhaps only friendships or fellowship, but the term 'yoked together' leads most Christians to believe Paul is referring to marriage. He goes on to say "what part has a believer with an unbeliever?" What does light have with darkness, rightousness with lawlessness". A marriage entered into by a Christian man and woman outside Christianity would not be blessed by God. See 2 Corinthians 6:14,15.

The Christian's Church would discourage such a marriage, but it can be permitted. If either partner is Catholic, the Church also makes the marriage subject to diocesian approval and requires the Catholic partner to vow to raise his or her children from the marriage as Catholics, and the Muslim must acknowledge that she or he understands this intention has been stated.

Muslims generally consider that a Muslim woman can not marry a Christian man, although instances do increasingly occur. So, for Islam the question is generally about a Christian woman marrying a Muslim man, and this is certainly permitted in Islam. The Muslim man is under an implicit obligation to raise the children from his marriage as Muslims.

There remain the questions of quite significant cultural differences, and of the form of the marriage. The Christian's family might hope the marriage will take place in a Christian church, but the Muslim's family will probably insist on an Islamic wedding. Most interfaith marriages involve a Muslim groom, so the choice is usually for an Islamic marriage. There is at least one imam in Britain, and another in South Africa, who are prepared to officiate over a marriage between a Christian man and a Muslim bride. A neutral choice is a civil wedding, which is an increasingly popular choice even for marriages that are not interfaith.

Yes, and this is happening more frequently, in spite of many Muslim men saying that Muslim girls never marry non-Muslims. For example, the United Kingdom 2001 census identified:

  • 17,163 Christian women married to Muslim men
  • 4,233 Christian men married to Muslim women

Ancient taboos against marrying Christian or Jewish men are clearly breaking down, and Imams came together with their Christian counterparts to provide recommendations for future mixed marriages in Britain. They recognised that occasionally both Muslims and Christians feel pressure to convert to the other's faith in order to avoid fallouts and ostracism, but it is perfectly reasonable to maintain their different faiths, as long as each partner to the marriage understands the needs of the other. In Britain, the Christian Muslim Forum recommends there be no forced conversion by either partner (http://www.christianmuslimforum....).

In the Middle East the couple would generally need to be more discreet, although I am aware of at least one Christian man living openly in Istanbul with his Muslim wife.

You also need to choose the form of your wedding. In most Western countries, it would be easier to have a civil wedding than a religious one. If the couple wish to have a Christian wedding they should check with the groom’s church whether there would be any impediment, otherwise they may have to contact other church leaders willing to perform an interfaith marriage. There is at least one imam in the United Kingdom who would perform a wedding ceremony where the husband is Christian and, I believe, another in South Africa, but otherwise they are very rare.
