NO!!!! The fuse is your safety device. Never replace a smaller fuse with a larger fuse.

Another answerPeople who have done that in the past have burned down their homes. Changing from a 20 amp to 30 amp fuse puts 50% more current through the wire, overheats the wire and can result in fire.

Don't do it. As the above post explains, the fuse is your safety device.

To Ad:

The above answers are dead on. Remember the fuse protects the wiring from overheating and catching on fire. A 20 amp fuse is used on 12 gage wire and a 30 amp fuse is used on 10 gage wire which is must larger. Never mix them up.

To Ad: actually if you people wouldve took some kind of electical class its better to put a bigger fuse.. you just do not need to double the size.. if you got a 20 put a 30 in it it want blow.. if you put a 40 then you will have problems...

My mercury manual says to use a 30 amp fuse for the blower motor however someone put a 20 amp fuse in. Would this cause my blower motor not to work?

The blower motor could stop working if it blew the 20 amp fuse. That's probably the worst that would happen. You should replace it with a 30 amp fuse, if that is what's called for in your manual.

Can a 30 amp fuse replace a 40 amp fuse on a lawnmower?

You can replace a higher rating fuse with a lower rating provided it works with the device without constantly blowing. So try the 30 amp fuse in your lawnmower and if it doesn't blow and the mower works okay, you are fine. If it blows you will have to go back to 40.

Can a 25 amp fuse replace a 30 amp fuse in a central ac unit?

Yes, as long as it doesn't blow. You can always go lower with a fuse, but not higher.

What fuse is for cigarette lighter in 2004 Alero it has a 30 fuse in slot 34 but from what I have read it should be a 20 which is it?

A cigarette lighter fuse is normally a 15 or 20 amp fuse depending on what other accessories are using that circuit. I doubt that it is a 30 amp fuse. Maybe someone installed the wrong fuse.

Why does your wiper windshield motor only work with a 30 amp fuse and not operate with a 20 amp fuse in the car?

It should work with a 20 amp, just not as long. Wipers use a fair amount of current so the factory puts a 30 amp in. Perhaps that particular 20 amp is bad or it blew as soon as you turned the wipers on.

Can you replace a 30 amp fuse with a 15 amp fuse?

Not a good idea. The 15 amp fuse will be protection a #14 wire which is rated for 15 amps maximum capacity. By changing the 15 amp fuse to a 30 amp fuse you would then be allowing 30 amps maximum capacity on a #14 wire. By doubling the load the extra heat generated on the smaller wire could be enough to melt the insulation from the wire and that could cause the wire to short out. If the wire shorts out inside the wall it means the removal of the wall board to replace the wire to restore the circuit to an operational condition. The proper wire sizing for a 30 amp fuse is, #10 copper wire with an insulation rating of 90 degrees C.
