As long as your parents have legal custody of you, they have the authority to decide where you live until you reach the age of majority (usually 18, but in some states it's older--never younger). If you leave home without their permission, they can have your picked up by the authorities and returned home. Whoever takes you in when you runaway, could also potentially be facing charges. This relative could petition the court for custody, but generally speaking, unless they can prove the parents to be unfit in some way, it's rather unlikely that they would be successful. Of course, I don't know the details of your situation.

They can't. Until a minor reaches the legal age of majority as set by the state in which they live they are, according to law obligated to remain in the custody of their parents. The reason being parents are financially and legally responsible for their minor child until said child reaches legal age or until a court deems otherwise.

This law varies by State. In NY a girl must be emancipated by the courts in order for her to move out. If she is not emancipated then the parents are still legally responsible for all debts incurred by said 16 year old...Rent, Hospital, Doctors etc...and the parents are still responsible for that child's actions. Parents can still be sued unless child is emancipated.

I would suggest that you check the laws in the state you live, however, in most the answer would be yes. At the age of 16 most teens can legally move out of their parents home without consent, however the teen cannot legally leave the state of residence.
