You can only use it to run 220, 230 or 240 V devices otherwise you must use either a resistor connected in series with the load in order to drop the load voltage to a safe value or you can use a step-down transformer.

This setup is in the classification of perpetual motion. Once started it would never stop. To date this phenomena has not happened. Internal mechanical drag and electrical internal losses are the culprits that robs this electrical setup from operating.

No problem because equipment is designed to work with a range of voltages.

You can using a transformer, but you won't have as many amps available.

5000 watt generator @ 120v = 41.66 amps

5000 watts / 240v = 20.83 amps

Can you run your neon sign of 120v 50hz 60hz 0.6a 7.5kv 30mA in an Australian 240v power outlet?

No. The neon sign is fed by a step-up transformer. Primary side 120V, secondary side 7500V. If you applied 240 to the primary side you would get 15000 volts on the neon tube. A flash over and then nothing. If you can find a transformer from 120V to 240V or 240V to 120V then you are good to go. Connect 240V to 240V side and you will get 120V out the other, connect the 120V side to the neon sign and you should have light. Transformer should be at least 100va. This will give you an output of .83 amps at 120V

Can GFCI circuit breaker handle a 240V circuit with a 120V circuit sub-paneled off if it?

I don't know if you are trying to ask if you can run a 240V panel off a GFCI or run a 120 V sub panel off of a GFCI. Can you clarify please,,,Thanks

Will 2500 generator run a laminating machine 240v 10a 50hz?

Yes. 240 volts at 10 amps is 2400 watts. The generator is 2500 watts maximum. If the generator is 2500 peak power it may not run it very long. If the continuous power rating is at least 2400 watts it should be OK.

Can you convert an existing 120V plug on an appliance to a 240V plug not speaking of a converter but actually changing the plug so there are no long term effects on the appliance?

If I understand your question, Can you run a 110 appliance off of a 220 volt outlet? You could by only using one leg of the 220. You may also consider changing the outlet. Put in a regular 110 outlet and capping off one leg of the 220 in the wall box. You still have a neutral and a ground to work with. I read this as the questioner doesn't want to modify the outlet. Check the voltage ratings on the device. Many electronic devices nowadays can havdle 120V or 240V as it is cheaper to manufacture one powersupply and sell it everywhere. If your device is rated for 240V, you can put a 240V plug on it. If it only says 120V, no dice. 240V will burn it up.

Is a 2.8 kilowatt generator big enough to run a house as a standby?

No, a 2800 watt generator is not large enough to run a home as stand by power. For a generator ot produce 100 amps a 25,000 watt or 25 kW generator would be needed. Since a house uses about 50 to 60 amp at any one moment during normal everyday living, a 60A x 240V = 14,000 watts. A 15 kW generator would be the minimum size generator to run a house without cutting back on any loads.

all the electrical machines can be run either as a motor or as a generator. but dc machines, A motor can be run as generator and vice versa with little modification

What would cause light sockets to read 130V in a 240V system when the light switch is off?

More than likely, your 240V system has branches that supply a standard household 120V to things like lighting outlets. Most light bulbs in the US run on 120V so this is probably a convenience feature. Otherwise you would have to go to a specialty store and buy 240V bulbs.

How do you Jump a car with only a gas powered generator?

Its impossible to do so without damage if not using some sort of voltage regulator. generator is 120v, cars run on 12v.

How can you wire one half of a 20 amp 120 v duplex wall socket to run 240 volts over 2 legs 2 separate 120 v legs?

You can't. I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to do, but the way it is written is not possible. It seems you might want to use half of a duplex receptacle for 120 and half for 240. This would not be code compliant, nor would it make sense. A plug designed for 240v will not even fit into a 120v receptacle. You need a 240 volt receptacle rated for the amperage you will need. Also, an existing 120v receptacle has nothing to do with your 240v receptacle. For a 240 volt receptacle, you'll need to run 2 new 120v lines (in the same cable). The existing 120v circuit cannot be used here, even if you added another 120v circuit, because when a load uses 240v, both 120v circuits supplying the 240v must be controlled by a common disconnect (a 2 pole breaker designed for 240v circuit). My advice would be to show an electrician what you want done. I'm sure they can tell you how to make that happen.

Can you plug a ballast into a 120V outlet that is normally meant for 240V outlets if it's a 400W metal halide light bought in Korea and will it run in the US?

No, but it's usually quite easy to run a 220V line to wherever you want to put the bulb.

What are the machines used in a construction site?

Many different machines may be used in construction. Two that you always see are a large compressor and a large generator to run all the tools.
