"God cannot be tempted with evil." James 1:13. This means that any evil temptation that would be brought before God, would be unsuccessful in causing Him to succumb.

Jesus was tempted by the devil after fasting in the desert, as revealed in the Gospel accounts of Matthew, Mark and Luke. Yet He resisted each attempt of Satan by saying: "It is written...", quoting the true position of how we should obey God and live for Hi glory.

Later, it is said in Hebrews 4:15 that Jesus "was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin." It is concluded there that If you have Jesus as your Savior, in Him "we have not a High Priest (Old Testament type) which cannot be touched (moved with understanding) with the feelings of our infirmities," because He was also tempted. "Therefore, the true Christian can "come boldly unto the throe of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." v.16.

On the contrary, that is not proper to do (Deuteronomy 6:16). The only exception is in giving tithe and charity, to see as God responds with His blessing (Malachi 3:10).

How can Jesus words lead us not into temptation be reconciled with James admonition that God does not tempt man?

When Jesus said: "LEAD US not into temptation, He was asking the Father not to place Him in a situation where the TEMPTER can tempt him. God Himself never tempts us, but we can be allowed to enter a situation where the Tempter (Satan) can tempt us. (He allowed that with Job if you will remember). When Jesus was led into the dessert....He was PLACED in a situation where the Tempter can get a hold of him...and this is what we should ask NOT TO HAPPEN in the prayer. Taking someone to a place where they can be tempted, (or placing them in a situation where temptation can become a problem) and tempting them yourself are two different things... Hope that helps Raka

What this scripture mean don't put your Lord your God to the test?

We are not supposed to expect God to prove who He is. It is like expecting the headmaster of a school to go through a series of tests invented by the pupils to prove that he has the right to be in authority. He is in charge, in authority, and the pupils must accept that. We cannot tell God what to do before we will give Him our respect, love, service. We must love Him unconditionally, because He is Creator God - but we know also that He loves us so much more!

God won't put no more on us?

I think that perhaps you mean that God will not allow Satan to put upon us any more than we can withstand. Satan is limilted with the amount of trouble that he can cause us. Remember Job? God let Satan tempt him with all maner of temptations and troubles, but He did not allow him to take Job's life.

Who did Satan provoke to do a census of Israel?

Who tempted David to number Israel?God 2 Samuel 24:1 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go number Israel and Judah. 1 Chronicles 21:1Satan1 Chronicles 21:1 And Satan stood up against Israel and provoked David to number IsraelAnswerThe Jews in the Old Testament understood that evil is from God, but Satan is allowed by God to tempt us. So that is why the verses above in this answer SEEM contradictory. They were expressing both views. The tempation from Satan and the fact that God had to allow that temptation. James 1:13 says "Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:" The Bible words for "tempted" also can mean "tested" in the Greek and Hebrew. So God DOES test us, but He does not TEMPT us to do evil.
