Depends which Alopecia you mean.

Androgenic Alopecia is male (or female) pattern baldness which is caused by your hair follicles containing some inherited genes which make them sensitive to a derivative of the hormone testosterone. In men this tends to cause the characteristic receding M shaped hairline and perhaps a balding crown, in women it's more diffuse loss over the whole of the top of the scalp. The FDA has approved two drugs for the 'treatment' of this kind of hair loss, Minoxidil and (for men only) Propecia. These will probably slow down, stop or may even reverse this sort of hair loss.

Alopecia Areata, patchy hair loss, has an entirely different cause. This is an autoimmune 'disease'. Minoxidil may help, as may steroid injections although the former might be more pleasant to receive.

Alopecia Totalis or Universalis is complete hair loss either from the whole scalp or from the whole body. That's unlikely to be preventable or to respond well to treatment although there are many excellent support groups online.

As far as I know, there is no cure. It has not been a priority to cure. Hair loss is not life threatening. There are however, treatments. I had alopecia 3-4 years ago. I saw a dermatologist and he prescribed a steroid gel to stimulate the hair growth. Thankfully, that treatment worked. The optional treatment was injected the steroid into my scalp with tiny needles.

Does Bimatoprost Ophthalmic drops work for people with alopecia?

Assuming you mean alopecia areata, it does not work as a cure. Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease in which the body attacks the hair follicles. Bimatoprost would not stop this from occurring.

There are many different herbal or Ayurvedic ways to cure alopecia areata in a 10 year old child. The treatment that seems to be the most effective is giving the child a diet high in protein, while also applying essential oils to the child's scalp.

What is the cure for alopecia and how do you know if you have it or if it just male pattern baldness?

is there a cure for alopecia ? There is no specific cure for baldness yet. However, there i a test you can take to see if you will go bald. It is called HairDX. If you test positive and will eventually go bald, you can start to take propecia as preventative maintenance. You may not stop all the loss, but you could slow it down and make the loss a lot less. You may even keep enough hair to not be considered bald. I guess this is sort of a cure for baldness

Is alopecia contageious?

Not every type of Alopecia is Contagious... Alopecia can be divided in 2 big categories: Non-Scarring Alopecia (the most common) and Scarring Alopecia. One of the subtypes of Scarring Alopecia is Infectious Alopecia and can be produced by several agents: fungal (Kerion, candidiasis, favus, tinea corporis), bacterial (syphilis, leprosy, acne necrotic) viral (herpes, varicella); protozoa (Leishmaniasis). It is important to recognise though that this condition is quite uncommon these days. Alopecia is hardly ever due to an infection and is therefore, generally speaking, not a contagious condition.
