What is needed to start your own small hospital?

Capital ... and lots of it. Ideally you would be a qualified and experienced medical doctor, because you could act as the Managing Director and the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at the same time (although at some point this may become too much for one person, depending on the hospital size). If you are not a medical doctor, you'll need to find a suitably qualified CMO (also known as the 'Director of Medical Services' in Australia). The CMO hires and fires doctors. (You'll also need a Chief Nursing & Midwifery Officer, who holds a similar role to the CMO, but manages the nursing staff.) Once you have the core executive directorships in place (i.e. the CMO, etc) then you can together begin to formulate a plan for building or acquiring pre-existing property to use as the hospital facility. But that's just the beginning... It's impossible to summarize in two-paragraphs what could take two-years! In any case, you'll need more than just medical expertise (either yourself or on payroll) - you'll need legal, business, accounting, and marketing/PR skills if you are to successful (the same as any other organisation.)
