The Bahai Faith is, first of all, the path of faith that was taught by Baha'u'llah (1817-1892). It has been expounded by his son Abdu'l-Baha (1844-1921) and by the Guardian he appointed, Shoghi Effendi (1897-1957). The Bahai community can be found in most countries (Google yours), and is now administered by an elected council, the Universal House of Justice. The community has no clergy. Local communities are also administered by elected councils, the Spiritual Assemblies.

Among the Bahai teachings are:- The independent search after truth, unfettered by superstition or tradition;

- the oneness of the entire human race, the pivotal principle and fundamental doctrine of the Faith;

- the basic unity of all religions;

- the condemnation of all forms of prejudice, whether religious, racial, class or national;

- the harmony which must exist between religion and science;

- the equality of men and women, the two wings on which the bird of human kind is able to soar;

- the introduction of compulsory education;

- the adoption of a universal auxiliary language;

- the abolition of the extremes of wealth and poverty;

- the institution of a world tribunal for the adjudication of disputes between nations;

- the exaltation of work, performed in the spirit of service, to the rank of worship;

- the glorification of justice as the ruling principle in human society,

- and of religion as a bulwark for the protection of all peoples and nations;

- and the establishment of a permanent and universal peace as the supreme goal of all mankind - these stand out as the essential elements of that Divine polity which He [Abdu'l-Baha] proclaimed to leaders of public thought as well as to the masses at large in the course of these missionary journeys [to Europe and North America, in 1911-1913]. The exposition of these vitalizing truths of the Faith of Bahá'u'lláh, which He characterized as the "spirit of the age," He supplemented with grave and reiterated warnings of an impending conflagration which, if the statesmen of the world should fail to avert, would set ablaze the entire continent of Europe. He, moreover, predicted, in the course of these travels, the radical changes which would take place in that continent, foreshadowed the movement of the decentralization of political power which would inevitably be set in motion, alluded to the troubles that would overtake Turkey, anticipated the persecution of the Jews on the European continent, and categorically asserted that the "banner of the unity of mankind would be hoisted, that the tabernacle of universal peace would be raised and the world become another world.

Bahá'ís believe that there is one God, that all humanity is one family, and that there is a fundamental unity underlying religion. They recognize that the coming of Bahá'u'lláh has opened the age for the establishment of world peace, when, as anticipated in the sacred scriptures of the past, all humanity will achieve its spiritual and social maturity, and live as one united family in a just, global society.

Some other basic beliefs are: -equality of men and women - elimination of all prejudices - no drinking/drugs - no sex before marriage -"the earth is but one country and mankind its citizens" -There are 9 world religions, the Bahai Faith being the latest progressive revelation: God sends a Messenger when it's necessary to update and refresh peoples beliefs to fit the current time. -Independent investigation of truth

Briefly, that there is a single God; that founders of different religions were sent as Messengers by this God bringing progressive teachings; that two of these Messengers appeared in the 19th century, known as The Báb (the Gate) and Bahá'u'lláh (glory of God); that God's message for this day involves the unification of all mankind. Bahais believe in one God, who guides humanity through a never-ending series of greater and lesser prophets and seers, and the human conscience. They believe that today, the Will of God calls for world peace and world unity, and the creation of a just and caring society.

and by Shoghi Effendi on the same site, under the tab "Bahai in a nutshell" which lists them in part as:

- The independent search after truth, unfettered by superstition or tradition;

The Bahai Faith does not have an agreed creed. One list of core teachings is:

  • Unity of God
  • Unity of religion
  • Unity of humankind
  • Equality between men and women
  • Elimination of all forms of prejudice
  • World peace
  • Harmony of religion and science
  • Independent investigation of truth
  • Principle of Ever-Advancing Civilization
  • Universal compulsory education
  • Universal auxiliary language
  • Obedience to government and non-involvement in partisan politics unless submission to law amounts to a denial of Faith.
  • Elimination of extremes of wealth and poverty

    It is a list that Bahais generally would recognise, but some might consider other teachings as also "core principles."

A:

The Bahá'í faith grew out of the the Bábi religion, which had emerged as a movement within Shi'ite Islam. As with Islam and the Babi religion, Bahais believe that God has addressed humanity through a series of divinely appointed messengers - including Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad - and that divine guidance for the present age is partly enshrined in a body of holy law based on scriptural revelations brought by the latest divine messenger. Whereas Islam teaches that Muhammad was the last divine messenger, Bahia teaches that the Bab and Bahaullah were also divine messengers, or 'Manifestation of God'.

The writings of Bahaullah are pervaded by Islamic concepts, and manypractices bear an obvious resemblance to those of Islam, but Bahai is also quite different to Islam. Particular qualities emphasised include the need for complete trustworthiness and honesty in all social dealings, wisdom, righteousness, charity, kindness to all, including animals, forgiveness, steadfastness, patience; humility and avoidance of backbiting. The Islamic teaching of holy war is abolished. If necessary, they are to welcome martyrdom, but living to establish their cause in the world is the goal.

10. the education and training of women, ...since they are partners and co-equals of men

11. seeking the bounties of the Holy Spirit, so that spiritual civilization can be established. Material civilization alone is not enough,

What is the bahai language?

Bahai is a religion, not a country or geographic area, nor does it represent an ethnic group.As a religion that believes in the unity of humankind, the Bahai beliefs are not restricted to any one language or language group.However, in the interests of engendering international unity, the Bahai Faith advocates the introduction of an international 'world' language. Even so, the religion has not said what language that should be, and, as yet, has not developed such a language for global use. In fact, their view is that such a language should be selected or created by the world's governments."It is incumbent upon all nations to appoint some men of understanding and erudition to convene a gathering and through joint consultation choose one language from among the varied existing languages, or create a new one, to be taught to the children in all the schools of the world." -Bahai quote, according to WikiPedia.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------See Related links below for more information.
