'The Beatles Story' was indeed a BBC production from 1972. (Not to be confused with the US album 'The Beatles Story' released by Capitol Records in 1964), It was first broadcast in the UK on BBC Radio 1 in 1972 in 12 parts (approx 1hour in length). A further two episodes where later added when the series was repeated in 1973. It covers the ' Birth Of The Liverpool Sound' through till the Beatles solo work after they split up.
The series was also sold to a number of US radio stations, the episodes were edited down to 45mins to accommodate commercials.
