The Roman Civil War (Final War of the Roman Republic), started by a disagreement between former political allies Octavian and Marcus Antonius (Mark Antony), ended at the Battle of Actium (September 2, 31 B.C.). It was the final decisive battle between the Roman forces of Octavian and the combined fleet of Roman General Mark Antony and Egyptian Queen Cleopatra. The victory by Octavian allowed him to consolidate his power base in Rome, and led to Anthony's death (he stabbed himself and died in Cleopatra's arms), and Cleopatra's eventual suicide shortly thereafter.

The 1963 Academy Award winning film "Cleopatra" is based on the events leading up to, and including the Battle of Actium and its aftermath.
