With its year round pleasant climate, Aruba is basically disaster free. Aruba is on the southern fringes of the traditional Atlantic/Caribbean hurricane belt. So the island generally isn't affected by the hurricane season. But sometimes Aruba has experienced high winds and abnormal rainfall from nearby hurricanes. Such was the case in the 1996 hurricane season with the August to September rampages by Hurricane Edouard and Hurricane Fran. Also Aruba is close enough to Venezuela to feel the after shocks of earthquakes in that country. Such was the case recently at 4:15 a.m. on January 13, 2010.
