As the moon passes over the Earth, since it has it's own gravitational pull, it slightly lessens the force of the gravity on the Earth. The lessened gravity when the moon is over the oceans causes the ocean's surface to rise, so the tide goes in.

No Both the Moon and the Sun have the largest effects. This is why tides are no always the same height and we get double tides. One for moon and one from Sun. The angles between each determine how high and how often we get tides.

  • When Sun and Moon are on same side we get higher and lower ranges of tides and there tends to be only one high and low per day.

  • When they are on opposite sides of the Earth we get smaller variation in tides.

  • When the moon is between these two points in its orbit we get double high and double lows in the tides.

Tides on the Earth are caused by the gravitational attraction of the Moon and to a lesser extent the Sun. The Sun is far more massive - but the Moon is way CLOSER, and in this case, distance is more important than mass.

Tides are the rise and fall of sea levels. Along with the gravitational forces of the Moon and Sun, the rotation of the Earth also causes tides.

the moon has a gravitational pull on the water in the earth. where the moon is during the day creates high and low tide because the gravity is being pulled to the side the moon is on.

Yes, although the Sun also has a lesser effect on the tides.

The main forces are the gravitation pull of the sun and the moon. Because it is nearer, the moon's gravity has a greater effect.

What is the Moon's effect on Earths tides?

It causes the tides to either rise or fall as it comes closer to or farther from the Earth in its orbit. This is caused by the slight gravitational pull the moon has on the Earth.

What ios the primary cause of earths ocean tides?

They are mainly caused by the gravitation of the Moon. More specifically, the Moon attracts the part of Earth that's closer to the Moon stronger than the part that is away from the Moon. To a lesser degree, tides are also caused by the Sun - for the same reason.

How does the moon determine the weather?

With the exception of the ocean tides here on earth, which are caused by the pull of the Moon, the Moon has no effect on earths weather. And the Moon has no weather of it's own, of course.
