only if your school district participates in the state plan.
Summer School Teachers was created in 1974.
Because a teacher is technically not unemployed, because their contract says they return to work when school resumes, they would not be eligible. This is how most, if not all states operate regarding teachers, unfortunately.
The duration of Summer School Teachers is 1.42 hours.
Most school districts offer supplemental work over the summer. The most obvious is teaching summer school. If that is not available many schools will pay teachers extra to work on curriculum.
If they care about their students and they like their job, teachers' requests to be called for jury duty over the summer should be granted. It is very disruptive for teachers to leave their kids for more than a few days.
Teachers can do whatever they want in their classroom so long as it helps the students learn better.

Teachers have no input if there is school in the summer. This is decided by the state department of education and the school district. Sometimes teachers get a chance to vote on a choice of school calendars that the district wants, but the district makes the final decision. All schools have to teach a certain number of days as required by law. By the way teachers also like to have the summer months off even though they often have to take classes that are required for them to keep teaching.
