Long-term, no. Many fats are found to be necessary for proper functioning of many systems, including hormones, nerve development and even brain function. While Americans tend do overdue fat consumption, it is unwise to eliminate them from our diet.

A totally fat free diet is not possible to achieve and it would not be good for you. The body needs essential fatty acids for good health, cell functioning, hormone production and for functioning of the brain.

Really cutting out all the fats wouldn't be a good thing, as there are some we need to stay healthy. But many food groups contain some fat in themselves, so leaving out most of the added fat, like butter, cream and stuff is perfectly healthy.

Another Perspective

There are many different kinds of fat and some are extremely unhealthy and should be cut out of your diet. It is not an easy topic and a person must do their own research until they understand that "simply cutting down" is not sufficient. The following notes only tell the story in brief.

Saturated fat:

Full fat dairy foods, meat, certain vegetable oils, bakery products- cut down to only 10% or less of your daily intake

Poly/monounsaturated fats

fish, nuts, some oils such as olive, peanut, canola oil- good for you

Trans fat: made from hydrogenated vegetable oils

process foods such as crackers, baked goods, restaurant food and fast food chain foods, some animal and dairy products-very bad and should be avoided

Yes. Low fat diets are good for the body, if the person is in need of a diet. Un-nessicary dieting is bad for the body; exercise and healthy eating prove to be the best diet of all.
