The chemical in a glow stick is not poisonous unless ingested in large quantities. My vet said toxicity level for a rat is 800mg, so a cat would have to eat quite a bit and there is usually not even very much of the poisonous ingredient in the sticks to have a longterm negative effect on them. The cat will probably react strongly to the taste, but most likely will be able to get in out of her mouth within a couple hours. If your pet is still having symptoms after 24hrs, take them to the vet.

Yes. The materials they contain, those causing the luminescence (glowing), are carcinogenic and highly toxic (they cause cancer and they kill stuff).

You should never feed a cat, or any animal, a glowstick. Come to that, you should never throw them in the trash, but take them to a hazardous materials disposal post if possible.

No, the chemical in glow sticks is only toxic if ingested in very large quantities - more than an entire glow stick contains. The cat will most likely react to the awful taste but should be able to get rid of it within a couple hours. You can help by offering broth or tuna juice with water. If the cat is exhibiting any symptoms after 24hrs, take him to the vet.

Although the other answer on Wiki says your cat is about to die, my vet told us that the toxicity level of the stuff in a glow stick is 800mg for a rat, so a cat would have to ingest a lot to actually hurt him. If the cat eats a good portion, take him to the vet. If your cat did what mine did - just bit the thing and got enough to have the awful taste in his mouth making him spit, shake, and jump around while drooling profusely - you can probably watch him closely to make sure he's not having serious poisoning symptoms (see symptoms on the ASPCA website given in Related Links below) and save the money on a vet exam. My vet also said the stuff is oil-based so giving him something oil-based such as tuna can help him get the taste out of his mouth.
