Veterans Day is a federal holiday in the United States. As such, federal offices are closed on Veterans Day.

Funeral homes, not being federal offices, are free to either close or remain open as the owners desire; the United States does not have any "mandatory holidays" on which all businesses must close.

Some are, some aren"t people die year round ( as the tragic Christmas song the Christmas shoes points out) More seriously, the churches do not normally perform funeral masses on sundays or major church holidays. This is not so much a doctrine or formal belief as a matter of traffic control. The same rule applies to weddings- Normally they are not held in the Catholic Church on Sundays or major church holidays- they are conducted usually on saturdays to avoid traffic conflict, so to speak. different churches have different rules. so it goes.
