Not really none are really easier than others, string instruments are harder to play than other families because they require a good ear which is useful for instance so you can tell if a note is the right pitch, to sharp, or to flat. you will find with any string instrument that the fattest string will be the hardest string to get a good sound from which is why there are different bows for each instrument.

My violin teacher recently advised me to switch to viola because i have really big hands (and I'm proud of it, etc). So maybe if you have small hands (short fingers) you should play a smaller instrument and if you have large hands (long fingers) you should play a larger instrument.

I play both instruments, and yes the carrying around of the cello really can take a toll on your arm and shoulder, whereas the violin is a light and simple thing to carry.

Yet more to the point, which is more difficult?

I've played the cello for two more years than a violin and to be honest the cello is a lot more daunting... the extensions and leaps on the cello is a lot larger than a violin. The violin (for beginners anyway) only consists or a few simple stretches to get the accurate accidentals. Although, even when you are very experienced on a violin, the smaller leaps are a lot easier to handle than on a cello.

When you have conquered these hurdles on the cello, you are pretty much unstoppable and it is a very rewarding instrument to play.

This is my personal opinion and experience, I hope it has helped.

It depends on personal preferences. Some people switch from violin to cello and find that the cello is easier to play while others who switch from violin to cello find it difficult. The same can be said for people switching from the cello to the violin. So really, it depends more on what you are comfortable with.

I am a violinist, and I have tried the cello and I personally think that the violin is easier, but it really depends on what you are into. My suggestion is to try both and see which you like best and is the easiest.

It depends on how in depth you plan to go in to bass. In the beginning violin is easier because pushing down the strings of a bass requires a lot of strength and will cause callouses. Violin music, a lot of the time is faster and harder. Bass music can be very easy and boring in an Orchestra. But, depending on how good at bass you are and how serious you plan to get, bass is harder. It is less competitive, but there is a larger area to cover on the bass, and you have to be very fast and controlled.

The violin and the viola are equally difficult. However, there are more violin teachers than viola.
