Not if you intend to keep it as a 4WD vehicle. The 2WD transmission isn't designed to mount a transfer case to it, and will have a different output - intended to go directly to the driveshaft - than the 4WD transmission.
It is just as strong as a 4wd. Obviously it will not have the traction of a 4wd though.
