4-cylinder engines respond quite well to forced induction systems. A turbocharged 2.0 can make as much or more power than a naturally aspirated engine of more than double the size while still being very fuel efficient (if you can stand to drive like your grandmother.) Of course the power bands are quite different. In lager engines power is present mostly at lower engine speeds and tend to decline rapidly at higher RPMs. Turbochargers take time to build boost pressure or "spool up" thus their power is created at higher engine speeds and can continue to gain power until redline and beyond. 4-cylinder engines, which are smaller and weigh less, are capable of running at much higher engine speeds than larger engines. They have a large enough RPM range to be able to make up for "turbo-lag" (the sluggish, low RPM range before the turbo pressurizes and starts making power) and take advantage of the maximum turbo pressure for longer amounts of time per gear.

And, if you drive it easy-like and don't allow the turbo to spool much you will still retain the excellent gas mileage of a smaller displacement engine.
