Any element that needs to emit it in order to stabilise. And they are not the nuclei of the element, they are made up of two protons and two neutrons, and it is also the most ionising radiation as well.

Alpha particles are actually the least penetrating form of nuclear radiation, with gamma radiation as the most penetrating and beta radiation in the middle. This is because the alpha particle is the largest, consisting of 2 protons and 2 neutrons, and the beta particle is the second largest as it is just an electron. Gamma radiation is simply an electromagnetic wave and as such it has no particles and is much more penetrating than the other types of radiation.
